Stopped in driving from Bend, OR to Salt Lake, and got seriously lucky finding this spot. We ordered 5 different pupusas (you can make your own but we opted to trust the menu) and a couple agua frescas. Our favorites were the chorizo and the asparagus, though all were great. Killer curtito on the side as well. Add on that a super friendly staff and the fact that our meal was less than $20, and we'll definitely return on our next drive through Caldwell.

Pupusas A&J's, you charmer. Once I tried your pupusas, I was sold. Converted. And mind you, I have to drive from Boise to Caldwell for the delight of your food. I encourage my friends to do the same. They get it once they try it.
While familiar with other Central American cuisines, Salvadoran food was a new experience. Think arepas if you know Colombian food. Corn flour is stuff with meat or veggies or cheese and then cooked like a pancake. Top it with hot sauce and the vinegary, chopped carrots and cabbage. Your taste buds get sweet, savory and sour. And they get happy.
I typically get two pupusas and a tamale. It's plenty of food if you're hungry. The tamales aren't what you'll get in a Mexican American restaurant. These are very moist, wrapped in a banana leaf and you'll likely find a bit of green olive along with the puerco or pollo.
They have the best pineapple aqua fresca I've ever had. If you're there during the colder months, ask the affable owner about the delicious hot chocolate they serve. It's unlike anything you'll overpay for at a bougie coffee shop in Boise.
Don't be afraid to ask the folks for explanations on menu items. I believe it's a family-run enterprise and they're happy to explain the food to people trying it for the first time.
Get there. Even if it's a drive. Once you have them, the pupusas will keep calling you back... -

First time ever having this food. If I had to describe it in the most American way, I would say, stuffed corn tortillas... but it's more. This place is really small and large groups like to go here, so be ready to wait... it's not fancy, but the care, is in the food.
Anyhow, these stuffed corn tortilla pancakes come in all sorts of amazing flavors. We had garlic, spinach and cheese, pork, and a bunch of others. It is served with sauces and this amazing pickled slaw that I could have just hammered down on its own.
It was fun and super homey, definitely one of those places that I will go again when folks come into town and I want to take them to something funky. -

12 miles from home and needed an economical food place to eat with a friend so we could run a necessary errand before heading back to nampa. Searched yelp and then filtered for one $ dollar sign.
First time eating pupusas. DELICIOUS FLUFFY DELICATE GOODNESS ON A PLATE. I had pork, cheese and mushroom.
My friend had a cheese and chicken and a ?mushroom and cheese I believe.
The friendly server Ana and basic clean restaurant topped it off.
For what it is it may be a little pricey but, at the same time, $3 per pupusa to be satisfied for a few hours and get a little protein to keep me from being tempted to eat my own young was WELL WORTH IT!
Iré? otra vez para introducir a las hijas a un restaurante nuevo con un precio que puedo pagar.
